Sparkasse Bank Malta plc is a licensed credit institution which provides private banking, investment services and custody / depository services.

As a result of our continuous growth, a vacancy has arisen for the role of Specialist within the Business Risk & Control Management department. 

The role will mainly focus in assisting with the implementation of the risk and control strategy as set out by the Bank, in ensuring the consistent and effective implementation and performance of operational risk and control assurance of the 1st Line of Defence for Corporate Banking.


Main Duties:

  • Ensure proper onboarding and review of new and existing clients to identify potential risk;
  • Implement the 1st line of defence, following the methodology and strategy set by the Senior Manager;
  • Monitor and test key controls on a cyclical basis and issue written reports of the findings;
  • Facilitate Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs) which identify the key risks, their impact and the relevant controls;
  • Lead and facilitate Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs), refresh workshops in order to support functions to manage their key risks;
  • Challenge local management when good business risk management is not evident (e.g. poor Risk & Control Assessments, slow resolution of outstanding issues) and escalate where necessary;
  • Create, implement and maintain Business Risk policies, processes and procedures;
  • Attend internal and external meetings when required;
  • Keep abreast with and constantly observe current local and foreign legislations, regulations and directives;
  • Attend training as and when required;
  • Attend internal and external meetings as and when required.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the financial services industry (banking, investments or compliance);
  • Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. proven experience of implementing 3 Lines of Defence Models, with focus on customer reviews and testing 1st Line of Defence Controls;
  • A track record of gaining an understanding of customers' needs and delivering excellent customer service; 
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills; 
  • Ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences;
  • Contributed productively to team objectives, supporting and leading activities to achieve shared goals;
  • Experience in promoting and leading best practice in risk and compliance management in a similar organisation;
  • Good command of Microsoft applications.
