The Securities Officer will be responsible for the handling of corporate actions of a wide range of securities which the Bank provides Custody safekeeping services for. The candidate will also be responsible for the upkeep of the Bank’s master database in line with the Bank’s procedures as well as the effective maintenance of the day-to-day asset servicing requirements. Moreover, the candidate will be required to be pro-active in identifying means of improving the team’s operational efficiency and workflow whilst also coordinating and monitoring the team’s routine and ad-hoc tasks. Furthermore, the Securities Officer will be responsible for the daily booking of trade settlements instructions on the Bank’s core banking system. The job will entail the effective maintenance of the day-to-day settlements team’s requirements, including but not solely restricted to cash and trade reconciliations, instructing of trade settlement instructions with various settlement counterparties, security setups, and general settlements-related administrative duties within the Securities & Custody Department.

The candidate will work closely with the team so as to provide the timely and critical administrative support. The job will also entail being the focal link between the team and the Bank’s Finance/Treasury department in relation to the cash reconciliations of daily trades as well as the daily funding requirements necessary for settlement instructions.


Asset Servicing
  • Reconciliation of corporate action payments;
  • Assisting in the daily corporate action notification process through data received from various counterparties and necessary record keeping in line with the policy and procedures of the Bank;
  • Analysing and interpreting of Corporate Action events and ensuring that instructions are adequately and timely captured with the Bank’s Sub-Custodians;
  • Effective communication with counterparties relating to the processing of corporate actions;
  • Resolving external and internal queries relating to corporate actions;
  • Booking of voluntary and mandatory corporate actions (including foreign exchange transactions, where applicable); 
Settlements
  • Effecting the necessary trade bookings on customer portfolio accounts (including foreign exchange transactions);
  • Daily reconciliations of cash balances;
  • Reconcile operating/suspense account differences;
  • Resolving external and internal queries relating to settlements;
  • Effective communication with Settlement counterparties;
Overall
  • Securities reconciliations between bank’s core banking system and external custodians and timely resolution of reconciliation breaks;
  • Setting up of securities in the Bank’s master database and effecting necessary updates;
  • Attend monthly department meetings;
  • General administration tasks;
  • Ongoing initiative to identify processes which ensure more effective modus operandi of the Securities department;
  • Keep abreast of all banking rules, regulations and directives issued by the MFSA / ESMA and other related bodies which are relevant to daily duties;
  • Take on any necessary training that is required from time to time, including training that is required due to change in internal processes and procedures;
  • Any ad hoc tasks which may be required from time to time
Skills and Qualifications
  • A related College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience would be considered an asset; 
  • Experience in a similar role would also be considered an asset;
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel;
  • Proactive, focused attitude towards work and an ability to plan and consistently meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrate good written, oral communication and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
